I talked with the Walking Lady this morning on my way to the wifi. I was resting on a bench and feeding the pigeons, and when those birds saw her coming they deserted me en mass and flocked at her feet—long before she started tossing out birdseed. They know her. She walks for miles each day carrying a bag of sunflower seeds, and wherever she goes she feeds the birds.

Can you believe that the Walking Lady has been hassled by the police (as she informed me) for feeding the birds? I’m sure you can believe it. This is Western Civilization, the 21st Century.

When we’d finished our palaver the Walking Lady took off with a crisp, purposeful stride (this gal is rigged for distance) and a cloud of pigeons trailing behind her. Those birds know a good thing when they see it!
